British Raj meal

The East India Café in the Promenade has generously adopted Friends of Pittville as their local charity. When Friends of Pittville members dine at the Café, 10% of the bill will be donated to our charity. This also applies if members buy merchandise there, or attend one of their masterclasses.

The restaurant specialises in Anglo-Indian cuisine, inspired by the time of the British Raj (the period between 1858 to 1947 when the British ruled over the Indian subcontinent). They take recipes and creations from the chefs and cooks of that era and then transform them with their own contemporary twists. They work with a number of local suppliers of the best produce along with ingredients from far-flung places to create the authentic taste of India, and have been nominated as one of the four finalists in the Taste of Gloucestershire awards for the Best Eating Out Establishment. They also specialise in the staple drinks of the Raj, including gin and tonic, cocktails and fruit punches.

The strong connection between the restaurant’s cuisine and Pittville’s history of Anglo-Indian residents was celebrated in a successful Friends of Pittville dinner there last year, and it is hoped to organise another meal for members in November.

So if you fancy some delicious and unusual Indian food why not try the East India Café and benefit Friends of Pittville too? Just show your membership card (or if you have mislaid it, just leave your name).
